Situate living units on second floor to maintain hierarchy of space and privacy.

The design problem statement was the redevelopment of a brownfield site, including post-production studios and a boutique hotel complex for integration with the current film studios across the street. Located in the historical Sawmill neighborhood of Albuquerque, New Mexico, the design was to focus on sustainable features for LEED certification as well as complementing the regional context. The production challenge was to lead a collaborative process with group members from architecture, landscape architecture and interior design disciplines.

Inside Out / Nai Renovation

Inside Out is a renovation of an older nightclub previously named Nai, located in Aman, Jordan. The theme is "inside-out" where the idea of bringing an outside terrace/patio feel to the interior of a basement space came to life. The earthy materials, multiple curtain windows, and terrace-inspired furniture bring a sense of new life and light into the space. My task for the project was to create the following perspective drawings based on the working plans, inspiration images, and material selections chosen by the design team:

MW is pharonic for boat. My first assignment of my internship was to create perspective drawings of the bar area of this restaurant located in the hull of a cruise ship docked on the Nile River. The perspectives finished the schematic design phase of their presentation and will go to the client for approval before construction.

These renderings were created for my Advanced Design Processes course which was designed for students to develop an understanding of programming and its role as the link between the analysis phase and the synthesis phase of environmental design in non-residential interiors.

The renderings seen here were produced for Phase III: Design Development Phase of the interior design of the law offices of Thomas, Edwards & Stone LLP. The Design Development Phase consists of the formal presentation of design concepts as discovered in the programming and schematic design phases of an interior design project. This phase includes floor plans, perspectives, elevation studies, furniture and furbishing selections that are presented in a combination of hand-drawn, AutoCAD and Adobe Photoshop mediums.

Chase Bank Identity Theft Offices

Project: To execute efficient space planning techniques in the renovation of the Chase Bank Identity Theft department office while adhering to building codes, client requests, and universal design requirements. The office holds customer confidentiality at highest priority therefore requiring maximum privacy within individual work areas as well as management offices. Teamwork, another priority for the company, is encouraged in work area clusters and break-out tables throughout. Employees often work long shifts and spend several over time hours in the offices. To keep these dedicated employees' energy up and mood lifted, a high-tech kitchen, spacious cafeteria and game room were integrated into to the space.

These watercolors were part of a presentation for an architecture/art studio course I took in Japan. The presentation was on Japanese gardens and their relationships to architecture. The above painting portrays a garden in a typical home. You would have Shoji (Japanese sliding screens) opening up to a small, minimalist garden. The second painting again portrays a simple, minimalist garden but this time in a public space, enclosed in a hand tied bamboo fence.

Office Renovation

Finished in October 2008, this assignment was the first to show my newly learned perspective drawing and rendering techniques. The objective was to redesign an office for a Texas Tech faculty member. A site visit to the office was required, where we took pictures and asked questions about any problems with the current design and any new features our client would like to see implemented.

Problems and Solutions:
A strict budget was given and the client wanted to keep her current office furniture as it was still in good condition. Instead of reupholstering the furniture to help lighten the room, I simply chose lighter flooring, wall colors, and ceiling. A rearrangement of the furniture helped to open up the space and make it feel less dark and crowded. A textured window film allows light to penetrate the space while keeping privacy in tact. The back room was previously closed off to the rest of the office, this proved to be a perfect space to turn into a casual meeting area and sun room, which again helps natural lighting reach into the office.

Artists' Loft

This project was completed in May 2008. The objective of this assignment was to use fundamental design principles and effective techniques to communicate ideas and concepts through perspective drawing, sketching and rendering. The building dimensions were provided.

Concept Statement:
My "clients" were art dealers and collectors. They needed a space in which they could work, live and play. This loft divides their public work area from their private life area. The first floor living area is not only a place for entertaining but a suitable space for their collections with a generous open plan to allow for an uninterrupted public gallery. The loft has a contemporary feel with its clean lines and cool color scheme, but this is warmed up with its rich materials, natural elements and comfortable space planning.

Ehagaki (Japanese Post Card Art)

Ehagaki (pronounced: A-ha-ga-key) is Japanese for post card art. This custom involves using black calligraphy ink to draw a very simple outline form of an everyday object in a still life setting and then color in that form with vibrant watercolors. The post card can be finished off with a simple phrase pertaining to the object or left alone for a more minimalist impact. The red pepper above translates to: "Looks delicious" and the broccoli translates to: "My favorite vegetable."

The second assignment for CAD II, completed in December, 2008, was to design and render a fine-dining restaurant located in Galveston, Texas. The restaurant had to include the design for two floors and an outside patio. The building shell of a docked cruise ship was provided for us. We had to build and render in 3D all interior walls, building fenestrations, furniture, accessories, art, architectural detailing, finishes, etc. The Accurender program used in conjunction with AutoCAD made it possible to fully portray the design I imagined for the restaurant.

CAD II Vignette

Completed in October, 2009, this is my first space created and rendered entirely in 3D computer design using AutoCAD 2009 software. The assignment was to build and design a furniture showroom vignette to display one furniture designer's collection of my choice. The dimensions and layout of the vignette walls and windows were provided. I had to construct the room, furniture, accessories, and art in AutoCAD and apply materials, finishes, background images, and lighting accordingly.

Project: To make use of photographic images of the College of Human Sciences Building and through the use of overlay tracing and marker wash produce images which can be manipulated to produce a graphic package. The final selected image will be produced in a variety of manors including not cards, business cards, letterhead, etc.

Here, I emphasized the curvilinear and linear architectural features of the building by using black and gray markers to create contrast, shade and shadow. The gradual termination of lines makes a more fluid form that is flexible for use on many different types of stationary.
